Aadhaar Number
Aadhaar is a unique 12 digit number issued by the government as proof of identity and residence in India. No resident can have a duplicate number since it is linked to their individual.
WHAT AADHAAR IS
- A number(12 Digits)
- For every individual, including infants
- Enables identification, and is for every resident
- Will collect demographic and biometric information to establish uniqueness of individual
- Voluntary
- For every resident, irrespective of existing documentation
- Each individual will be given a single unique ID number
- UIDAI will enable a universal identity infrastructure that any ID based application like ration card, passport etc. can use
- UIDAI will give a “Yes” or “No” response for any identification authentication queries
WHAT AADHAAR ISN’T
- Another Card One per family
- Establishes citizenship and is only for indians
- Will collect profiling information such as caste, religion, language
- Mandatory
- Only for individuals who possess identification documents
- Individual can obtain multiple AADHAARs AADHAARs will replace all other IDs
- UIDAI information will be accessible to public and private agencies

Can i cut the Adhar Card from that space where a cut- mark has been shown on the card so that i can laminate it and put into my pocket as ID proof ??????
I went today(10/10/2011) to the office of UID in sector 26 at NOIDA for making UID for myself. I had taken with me voter card , my Army identity card, telephone bill as proof my identity and residence, but was told that UID cards are not being made at present. The process may restart after “Diwali”. I am an Indian since centuries and our country became independent in 1947 but we have no national citizenship cards whereas all the countries surrounding us have long issued such cards to their citizens. That is one of the reasons for our country becoming a soft target. Now tell me how can I get UID card?

Can lower ortion of aadhaar card be seperated at dotted line and laminated for prper protection . Cadr is very thin and may not last long
What people don’y realize is that the bio metric system is also being introduced and this technology will create DBMS to manage the info regarding people of India just what IBM did with the Nazi’s in the 2nd world war to keep an account of how many people were there in the death and slavery camps. Don’t forget Billions of Rupees of tax payers money is being used to create this whereas there are existing structures of identity cards which can come handy any where. And the government has added the small condition that one needs to get this card in order to receive govt services in order to make people take this card who don;t want them. This is done in order to justify its need and say ” how useful it is”..Yeah right!!
People will realize these things after a decade or so when the real purpose of making this cards will be exposed. This is totally unconstitutional as it also invades into the bodily privacy of an individual without consent. How is this democracy or even a republic where government is making decisions for us without our permission like a totalitarian regime.

How can you claim that it is not mandatory when different agencies have started insisting on an Aadhaar number before processing anything? As of now all Maharashtra govt. employees are REQUIRED to have an Aadhaar number for processing salaries. Nationalized banks will also start demanding an Aadhaar number before allowing an account to be opened. Soon you will need one for everything from getting a ration card to a gas connection to a passport; tell me how this doesn’t make it mandatory?
